Keep it Simple

Ask me anything   Fanfic Recs

My name is Chelsea. I'm 17 years old and a Senior in high school. I live in Arizona.

Favorite things are Avenged Sevenfold, Glee, classic Disney, True Blood, Teen Wolf, Team Starkid, Vampire Diaries, Hunger Games, Facebook, Hockey, Pittsburgh Penguins, Phoenix Coyotes, College Football, ASU, NAU, U of M, frogs, peace signs, etc.

I like a lot of things but if I posted all of them you'd be annoyed. I usually post about Glee, The Avengers(and their individual movies), Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, and personal stuff at the moment. But you could see anything listed above or some stuff that's not listed

It’s been three days since he opened his rejection letter from NYADA. He feels a bit like he did after the loss at Nationals the year before, there was the immediate sense of disbelief, of ‘oh no this can’t be happening’, followed quickly by the awful, crushing weight of soul-shattering, numbing defeat that had him crying himself dry—into Blaine’s arms, into his father’s arms, into his pillow—for two days straight.

Oh there you are, I've been reblogging you forever: You know the monologue right before Kurt’s solo? →

sexyglances:

Where he says

I wanted to dedicate my goodbye song to all of you, but I wanted to mostly thank the men in the room who have truly inspired me and never saw me for the things that made us different. You only saw me for the ways that we’re the same. Because, in this room it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or straight, what matters is that we’re friends.

WELL FUCK THAT NOISE.

As always, Glee says one thing, but shows another. Kurt’s speech be what RIB+ are trying to tell us, but everyone’s interaction with Kurt says otherwise. As long as Finn still says things like “my gay stepbrother” during his voiceover, as long as Schue does nothing to stop Sue from insulting and trying to force Kurt to wear a dress at nationals but balks when Puck volunteers and Sue insults Puck, as long as Kurt is excluded or not written in every “bro” scene except for that pivotal one where Puck told him to go spy on the Warblers because that was a better use of his time than trying to help them out, as long as they keep doing shit like that, they’re saying that IT’S ENOUGH for people to deign to see Kurt as a human because he’s gay. And I’m not even touching the misogynistic notion of that speech where they essentially take all the lady friendships they’ve been writing Kurt to have and throw them under the bus because apparently they’re not as important as dudely dudes who dude being willing to allow a special unicorn gay dude in their midst.

Instead of treating Kurt being gay as the non-entity they should and being Kurt’s friend because he’s a badass and a good friend, it’s being framed that they’re his friends despite that pesky gay part of him. The message is that constantly thinking Kurt not just as a friend but as “my gay friend” is fundamentally as good as equality. Yes, being gay is important to Kurt, but it doesn’t define his whole being. And it shouldn’t define their whole friendship either. But the show doesn’t say this. What the show says is that the characters (and by extension, the GA) consistently using the “gay” modifier in whatever Kurt does is fine because really, what else can one expect when Kurt is always such a flaming unicorn (hello Santana’s “lady gay” lines, hello Sue’s refusal of the notion that Kurt could be considered virile, hello basically Kurt’s interactions with everyfuckingbody).

Because when it comes down to it, RIB+ writes Kurt as gay first, person second. That’s really the lesson that this “progressive show” is teaching us.
